Day of Giving – Academics

While Mattawan Consolidated School provides our students an education that is well above average in every regard, our district receives funding well below average. On average the total revenue per student is $10,487. Mattawan receives $9,156 per student – a shortfall of $1,331 per student each year. This is the difference between what it truly costs to educate each student and the funding received from the state. Our district works very hard to overcome this deficit, however, there are needs within academics, athletics, and the arts that still must be met.

Gifts received to academics through the Day of Giving will help fill this gap and make innovative classroom learning opportunities and professional development opportunities available that simply could not be supported through regular annual school funding sources.

Mattawan Public Education Foundation (MPEF) is a non-profit organization maintained by volunteers dedicated to raising funds for innovative educational opportunities in the district. Since its founding 25 years ago, MPEF has awarded nearly $1,000,000 in awards and scholarships.

In the fall of 2019-20, MPEF awarded 47 Brain Strong Awards to teachers in all four buildings, putting $21,800 directly back into our teachers’ hands and fueling classroom learning, innovation, creativity, and enthusiasm.

The foundation also supports professional development opportunities for MCS teachers and staff, scholarships for graduating seniors, and provides support to each building through various endowments each year. In honor of MPEF’s 25th Anniversary, MPEF partnered with the High School to help transform the media center into a twenty-first-century learning environment by creating a flexible space that fosters collaboration as well as independent study. MPEF raised nearly $100,000 to fund this project.

Thank you for supporting our community. Every gift makes a difference.
