Excellent schools are the foundation of excellent communities. Each year you are presented with a variety of opportunities to support excellence in Mattawan Consolidated Schools.
We appreciate every contribution because your support is making a big difference for our students. Your financial contributions help the district fill the gap between the funding we receive from the State and the true cost of educating each student.
- Did you know that there is a shortfall of $1,719 per student each year?
- Did you know Mattawan Consolidated School District is in the 95th percentile of total funding to our General Fund, meaning only 5% of schools across Michigan get less funding than MCS?
- Out of 830 districts in Michigan, Mattawan was the 769th lowest funded school in the 2016-2017 school year.
- 94% of teachers spend $479 out-of-pocket on classroom supplies, according to the 2018 survey conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics

Our district works very hard to overcome this deficit, however, there are needs within academics, athletics, and the arts that still must be met. Through this letter we wish to share with you our greatest needs and invite you to join us in supporting these key initiatives in 2019-2020.
Together we can make this happen!
Many of the organizations and teams across the district host their own fundraisers to meet their needs each year. Another goal of the superintendent and principals’ offices is to minimize the number of fundraisers and requests you receive. This letter is step one towards reaching our goals.
Your tax-deductible donation can be made online at www.mattawanschools.org/dayofgiving. Should you have any questions or wish to speak with us about your family or business’ contribution, please contact any one of us directly.
Thanks in advance for partnering with us and making an impact on the quality of education delivered in Mattawan, the resources available to the teachers, coaches, and staff who care for your children throughout the year, and the community in which we live and work.
We look forward to an excellent school year ahead!
