SUMMER MEALS FOR KIDS!

Mattawan Consolidated Schools is proud to host a "Meat Up and Eat Up" site again this year in partnership with Michigan Department of Education's Nutritional Services. Summer Meals have been renamed by the USDA and are now called: "Sun Meals". Learn all about this valuable summer resource for families: https://www.fns.usda.gov/summer/sunmeals

The location for pick-up will be in front of the Early/Later Elementary complex, in the center of the building space where the cafeteria(s) are located. Due to the volume of food being provided, the week will be broken into two separate packs. You can visit and receive both to get a full week's set of meals. Food will be available for pick-up from 3pm-5pm on Mondays and 3pm-5pm on Thursdays. On Mondays, meal packs will include the following: 3 breakfasts, 4 lunches, and a 1/2 gallon of milk. On Thursdays packs will contain 4 breakfasts, 3 lunches, and a 1/2 gallon of milk (this will cover an entire 7 days if people visit both instances).  Help us plan via this survey.

Free Meals for All Students.

For the upcoming 2025-2026 school year, Michigan has not yet passed the K12 portion of the State's budget to re-authorize the Free Meals for all Program.  We are awaiting a final decision by the Legislature.  At this time, meals will continue to be FREE for all enrolled students through September 30th, 2025 (which is the final date of the current annual state budget).

At that time one of two things will happen:

1. The program will either continue unchanged.

OR

2. We could revert to a "paid out of pocket" structure depending on what is passed in our funding provision.

More information will be released to students and families as quickly as we are able and made aware of changes.

It is important to note that families should complete the 25-26 Education and Nutrition Benefits form, which helps ensure ongoing state funding and can qualify your child’s school or community for other special programs like "Sun Bucks" EBT benefits.

Should Michigan Meals be discontinued, this document is critically important for students and families who may still qualify for the Federal guidelines permitting them to receive Free or Reduced pricing under that structure.  Filling out that form ensures your services will not be disrupted.

Parents or guardians can submit applications online at https://mattawan.familyportal.cloud/ or in person at your child’s school office.
