Meet The Principal
I am very excited to begin my fourth year at Mattawan.
Here are a few things about me (you can check out the resume, below, too):
I grew up in Grand Rapids and graduated from Creston High School. From GR, I came to Kalamazoo. I graduated in 1990 from Kalamazoo College with a degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I was hired to coach swimming and diving at Hackett Catholic Central that fall and then was hired in to teach science that following year. At Hackett, I taught Biology, AP Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, Physics, and Forensic Science. I served as the swimming and diving coach for the Boy’s and Girl’s programs for many years and also spent some time as the assistant track coach.
After eight years, I left Hackett for Olivet College. There, I was the aquatics director, swimming and diving coach, associate professor in HPERS and associate professor in Chemistry. I returned to Kalamazoo and served as a PK-8 principal and then spent 13 years as the Principal at Hackett. In my return to Kalamazoo, I resumed coaching and spent three of those years as the coach of the Mattawan-Hackett Girl’s Swim program.
As you can probably tell from the picture, I do like the outdoors and always enjoy taking a little time in the fall for salmon fishing in beautiful northern Michigan. I enjoy cycling and swimming. In my spare time, I also like to read, cook, and spend time in the yard. My wife and I have been married for 21 years. We have two children. That means that we’re involved in their activities.
I enjoy being a member of the Mattawan community and love being the Principal of the High School.Tim Eastman Resume
